MORE BIRDS FROM ST. JAMES PARK, LONDON

I am still sharing photos of  birds found in St. James Park in London last June.  The Greylag Goose in the bottom photo has become one of my favorites.  I am not sure what type of pigeon/dove the above bird is, but I think the one below is called a Tufted Duck. I always rely on my more knowledgeable birding friends to set me straight.  I found one that looked very similar at this blog, with a great description.  What do you think?

The quote seemed to fit somehow.

She looks like she suddenly became embarrassed about being observed, getting a few steps in while baby was sleeping.  I felt like joining in.

I still have photos from the park but am slowly getting to the bottom of the pile.  I'll just keep sharing them until they are all gone.

  8. Yes, that's a Tufted Duck, I see lots of them regularly. The pigeon is a domesticated form of the Rock Dove, they were bred for racing but many of them lack the necessary navigational instincts and go missing. They live and breed very successfully in towns and can be a nuisance (for obvious reasons!). I love the last picture.

  14. I had to smile at that last shot since I've been stuck in bed for the last three days since returning from over a month away on the mainland. I just hope I don't make anybody else sick. The colors were sure beautiful this year, weren't they? We saw such beauty driving between Pennsylvania and Maryland and also in Chicago.

  24. Thats a Tufted Duck alright - very nice little bird. And I think that the pigeon has a bit of feral racing pigeon in its history somewhere!

  25. Fun birds, Denise. I like the Tufted Duck. Occasionally one shows up in the U.S., but I have never seen one! I like the pretty pigeon or dove in the first photo but I am afraid I am no help there.
