Red-spotted Admiral

The other day I was surprised to see this pretty butterfly land on our deck.  Normally I expect to see them more interested in flowers than dead leaves.  The tree overhanging our deck has been shedding them a lot this past week.

I believe it is a Red-spotted Admiral.  You can look at the photos on this site to see if you agree.

  1. I think that it may have been getting minerals or some such thing - and in the end I don't suppose it really matters does it!

    Nice shot.

  13. What a beauty! I need to bookmark that ID site. Just for my own info -- I almost never get a good picture of one but I see butterflies often and never know their name.

  14. Pretty! We don't have anything like that out here. We primarily just have the Monarch Butterflies that head down to Mexico.
