Red-spotted Admiral

The other day I was surprised to see this pretty butterfly land on our deck.  Normally I expect to see them more interested in flowers than dead leaves.  The tree overhanging our deck has been shedding them a lot this past week.

I believe it is a Red-spotted Admiral.  You can look at the photos on this site to see if you agree.

I think that it may have been getting minerals or some such thing - and in the end I don't suppose it really matters does it!

Nice shot.

What a lovely treat for you! Our leaves are, sadly, falling. I'm not quite ready for it...

What a beauty! I need to bookmark that ID site. Just for my own info -- I almost never get a good picture of one but I see butterflies often and never know their name.

Pretty! We don't have anything like that out here. We primarily just have the Monarch Butterflies that head down to Mexico.

Beautiful. When I see butterflies out in my yard, I never have a camera with me, alas.
