GREAT BLUE HERON AT MEADOWLARK GARDENS

This is the first time we have seen a Great Blue Heron on the walk to what we call our secret garden.  I'm sure he has been there before but we felt we were very lucky to be there at the same time.

So focused!

And I kept snapping away.

Eventually I think he got tired of me, even though I wasn't that close.....

as he took off....

and relocated....

to the other side of the pond.

It was time to leave him in peace.

I am sharing with the following memes, with my thanks to our hosts.

  1. I wonder why that heron was alone. Didn't it have a mate?

  2. Isn't he just magnificent? i love his curly neck and feathers and that wing span is amazing. there is one that fishes in a pond only a few blocks from her, in a place we can't stop, but we see him almost every day FOCUSED on the water, waiting for a fish.

  7. Great shots! He posed for a good while, didn't he? I imagine he had to really focus to see under all that growth in the water.

  11. This guy has probably watched you many times but you didn't notice him. They stand so still and blend in that they're hard to see.

  18. Nice shots. Great Blues always seem a little wary. They are so beautiful when they fly. I love the shot with the reflection as it was flying close to the water.

  30. Great shots Denise, I've never been able to capture the one that raids our backyard pond. As soon as I open the screen door it takes off over the roof tops. Probably knows it's fishing where it shouldn't. :-)
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday.
