BIRDS FOUND IN THE EVERGLADES

These are from our trip in January 2014.  One of the many reasons I enjoy Florida is because of the abundance of birdlife.  You can get up relatively close to them, especially we found in the Everglades.

Wood Stork

Great Blue Heron

The extraordinary design on the wings of an Anhinga is stunning.

Here is one perched on a tree.....

and another taking off across the water.

I have shared this Green Heron before.  He was busy fishing when we observed him.

This extraordinary looking bird is a Purple Gallinule.  Look at those feet!  It's long toes help it to walk on floating vegetation like lilypads.

A Tricolored Heron.  I have shared some of these birds before, including this one.

Another one of a Great Blue Heron having just caught his lunch!  He was far away and I'm happy to have gotten this photo even though it is a little blurry.

I decided to add close-up shots of their heads.  A Cormorant is in the top right square.  The others are ones I have identified above.

These are wonderful!! I love the Wood Stork, and what a face! The anhinga pictures are stunning, and his feathers are a work of art. He has a punk hairdo. The Gallinule is spectacular and I love his big yellow feet and legs. Great capture of the Great Blue with a fish n his mouth!

Inhad never seen the anhinga bird before and agree Denise that the feather pattern is quite amazing. We have seen some of these species on the VA eastern shore as well.

Beautiful series here, Denise! The only bird in this series that I have ever seen, and taken photos of here in Montreal is the blue heron. You have a lovely assortment here! :)

All your photos are wonderful, but I'm really impressed with the Anhinga, the pattern on the wings is so geometric, and the blue around the eyes, the sophisticated expression, and the feathers standing up in curls on the back of it's neck are so elegant.

I've often wondered why the birds in Florida can be approached but the same ones here won't let a photographer get very near at all. Very nice photos!

There certainly are some different, and colourful birds to photograph in Florida. The anhinga fascinate me with those emerald eyes, a pretty bird.
