SUNRISE!

For SkyWatch Friday and Willy-Nilly Friday Five.

One morning I looked out of the window upstairs and saw a beautiful sunrise.

"If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don't hesitate.  Give in to it."
~Mary Oliver~

And now for my Willy-Nilly Friday Five

In order of how they happened.

1)  I won a fabulous prize in a giveaway this week.  As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was told that I am the proud recipient of Theresa's portrait of a bear. She does a giveaway every month, incredible and how very generous.  Not only is she an exceptionally talented artist her blog is very special too, you should see her photography.  A favorite of mine is her Wednesday Whistlers.  She made me a big fan of these cute little ducks.  But, being a big fan of the Bear and all things Bear, I have been doing the happy dance ever since I found out.  You can see the bear with the beautiful eyes here at The Run *A* round Ranch Report.

2) We went to see a movie, "Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb".  We have not been to a movie in a very long time.  We had seen the other two and enjoyed them and we felt like a lighthearted movie. We enjoyed this one also and the whole ensemble is very likable.  If I was one to over-analyze I would seek out the flaws, and yes things got a bit silly in parts but I choose to see the overall and say that it was well worth going. Bittersweet to see dear Robin Williams in his Teddy Roosevelt role, one he played exceptionally well.  He was such a talented actor and fit into any role.  What a sweet man he was, gone far too soon.  And of course Mickey Rooney did a cameo and it was his last performance also.

3) We had a lovely chat with my brother-in-law across the pond last night.  It had been a while and it was great seeing him.   The novelty for chatting on Skype will never wear off for me, it is like he is right there instead of 3,000 miles away.   The time difference is always a bit tricky and we have missed each other several times but we made it finally.  I remember the first time my sister brought him to our house to meet him.  I was 13 years old.  He feels more like a brother to me than a brother-in-law.

4) Yesterday it snowed for the first time this winter and we awoke to a dusting, about two or three inches is all. It looks pretty, tricky getting around in but we didn't have much difficulty on our trip to the post office, and I know there are those of you who have to deal with much worse. We got there and back without a problem. It is cold, much colder than when I found myself at the mall last week without a coat and gloves.  Schools were not closed yesterday which got people mad, school was closed today which got people mad.  The reason for the closing was that many school buses would not start today as the cold got to the engines.  I just checked the temperature and it is 13 degrees F.  Again, not as bad as some temperatures you have to deal with out there.  Here's the extended weather forecast for our area.  We're going to be in for a heatwave on January 14th.   Woo-hoo!

We saw Night at the Museum on New Year's Eve and we liked it too. It is sad about Robin, and knowing that he won't fill that part again. Also why I was a bit sad that the ending came as it did, like it was all over as if it never happened, but having him walk by and hear the music and see the movement that was a relief for me! You are really and truly lucky to have won her lovely artwork. Theresa is indeed talented!

I have been the recipient of Teresa's giveaways before and I know you will enjoy it. My drawing of a Cardinal, our state bird, has a place of honor in my home. She is so talented!

I haven't been to a movie in ages!!!
I loved Robin Williams. What a tough time for many people!
We've got bitter winds, but we'll cope!

A beautiful shot!

I saw the first of those films... and wished someone else could have played the lead. I have a particular dislike where Ben Stiller is concerned.

Beautiful photograph.

We went to see Night at the Museum and I thought it was pretty decent flick. Seeing Robin Williams and Mickey Ronney was kind of sad though.

I don't think I have seen any of those movies. I will check out Netflix to see if any is available. Last year was a sad time mourning the death of Robin Williams. Years ago, I almost bumped into him in Vancouver on Robson Street while getting off a bus. I did not realized it at the time when I brushed against him trying to get by him and a crowd of people to run for my next bus. When I sat down in the next bus I thought "That was Robing Williams". He was a lot shorter in person and had this great big smile on his face, carrying many shopping bags including one from HMV.

Looks too cold for me. Hope your snow goes away quickly.

Gorgeous sunrise!

I'll bet the snow was pretty - we haven't had much here this year (WA state), but it has been cold at times. The sunrise you captured is very pretty behind the bare branches and congratulations on winning Theresa's bear. She really is talented and such a sweetheart, too. xo Karen

We had some very cold days here in Montreal and the streets and sidewalks were like a skating rink for a couple of days, but thankfully the city has been working hard to fix this. Your photo is gorgeous, Denise.

I'm glad the Night at the Museum was fun. We saw Into the Woods and were not very impressed, sorry to say.

It's single digits in Chicago too and they had a 2nd day of school closings which is amazing. Your forecast is awfully cold too. I shall have to give my son (in D.C.) a call.

I just clicked on your link and saw the bear. Very wonderful!!!

Lovely sunrise shot. We're getting the same sort of sky here at the moment on certain days.

I guess I shouldn't complain about our temperatures when they dip into the 60s.

So cold! I have never lived where it is that wintery. But it is very beautiful.

We also saw this latest Night at the Museum film and enjoyed it, though it was bittersweet as you mentioned. It's cold here as well this week with temps in the single digits and also a dusting of snow. Some school districts also closed because buses would not start. Congrats on your prize win and thanks for a beautiful day starter.

SOOO cold! We had a couple of freezing nights then it became 76 and now back into the 60s. I'm glad we always have a nice reprieve (got our dusting on New year's Eve!) Loved your Friday Five, especially about the movie which I hadn't thought about seeing really, but now when you think of it as a tribute to both Williams and Rooney, it would be sad NOT to see it. Glad for that reminder.

No one deserved Theresa's bear drawing more than you, I think! It's perfect that you won! Love the sunrise. And how nice you get to skype with family back in England. That has to help.

Have a great week!

I actually caught a sunrise one morning! Only had my cell phone upstairs, so it's seen through window screen. But still, it's something I don't see often. ;)

No matter what the schools decide, someone is going to be mad, it seems.
