MUTE SWAN

This beauty is a Mute Swan, Cygnus olor.  He can be found in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.  The name 'mute' derives from the Mute Swan being less vocal than other swan species.  This large swan has white plumage with an orange bill bordered with black.  It is recognizable by its pronounced black knob on top of its bill.

  7. Wonderful photos of the beautiful swan! We've had both mute swans and whooper swans at a bird lake nearby. The whoopers can be very loud!

  9. He's a handsome swan. I always thought mute meant they couldn't make any noise until I saw one having a free for all one day and heard that he could actually 'speak'.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment about the Christmas story. It was based on my son being called to arms in N.Ireland one Christmas. I have done a few postings with my Christmas stuff up to Christmas Day, thank goodness Blogger allows us to schedule our posts.
