SKYWATCH FRIDAY

I took these photos from my archives of our road trip out west in September 2013.  Hard to believe it is just about a year ago.  You can click on this link to see more of the Arches National Park in Utah.

The park is located in a high desert with elevations ranging from 4,085 to 5,653 feet above sea level.  This map will show you where it is located.

I read that it contains the greatest density of natural sandstone arches in the world.  According to the above link the park covers 73,000 acres, and has over 2,000 arches.

These photos don't show those famous arches but the rock formations, in their own way, are equally as amazing.

We lucked out that day, the skies made a beautiful back drop.

  13. What a beautiful area. I've seen photos before but, of course, they all showed the famous arches and neglected to show the general scene. thanks for correcting this imbalance.

  16. The landscape is such a contrast from the east, isn't it? I would like to see many of the scenic spots out west. This place would make an amazing stop for sure and great photo op.

  17. It's incredible the way wind and water has worn away the sandstone to create such beauty.

  21. I'm so glad you included the map! My US-geography is a bit weak!
in fact, I was doing a crossword puzzle and I couldn't, for the life of me remember the capital city of one of our provinces. Gah. Old age!

  22. Great pictures of the rock formations...which I love to see. We were in Utah a few years ago to attend a wedding at Sundance. The mountains were stunning.

  24. So many parks and so little time to see them. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her trip west this year. The West is huge. As many times as I have been there I have not seen a third of it.
