Feathered friends....

Hello there, here are a few of my visitors to the deck today.
A Carolina Wren.  I heard its sweet song first.

A Downy Woodpecker, a female (I think).  Not a very close-up shot but I was fascinated by the pattern on its back. and it never got any closer than this.

The Tufted-Titmouse carrying off with one of the smaller peanuts that I have seen them take up into the trees.

Over the last few days I have been watching the leaves float down.  It only takes the slightest breeze and they cascade like a waterfall.  It can be very relaxing if you quieten your mind down to enjoy it, like watching tropical fish swimming around a water tank.   Very hypnotic!

Like a switch they know the season is changing, though it has been very muggy today.  It got up to 90 deg. F. in Washington DC and I don't think we were far behind.  Maybe their shedding  is because of the very dry summer we have had.   It won't be long before it will be easier to take photos of the birds.

  4. I love the titmouse with the huge peanut. The leaves are probably extra dry from you hot dry summer so they fall earlier and more quickly. I love watching the waves at the beach I get the same hypnotic stillness.
It is warming up here. I am wearing short sleeved T shirts again.

  8. It must be a joy to be able to see these birds in your garden and hear their songs and sounds (woodpecker). Very calming to sit and watch them and the leaves drift down.

  10. Great shots of the birds. These are some of my favorites that I see too although they are usually too fast for me to get decent shots of.

  18. Such wonderful shots Denise !
The Carolina Wren is my favorite songbird, she surely stands above the crowd :)
We had flooding last night, and once again our garage flooded. The leaves are turning, and after thsi Summer's drought, they seem to be falling earlier.
Hope you are enjoying the changing seasons sweet friend.

  19. Hey Denise that carolina Wren looks so much like our good old UK Wren, just a little bigger as you might expect in the US. Last time I used the word "wellies" I had to translate for you folks.
