Rolling Thunder in Washington DC

The following photos were taken when we drove into Washington DC today.  We saw a lot of motorbikes getting ready for the Rolling Thunder Parade but was not able to stay.  All roads were being blocked off and there was no where for us to park.  After a very enjoyable ride ourselves among all these wonderful people we drove back across the Potomac and made our way home.  It was a hot one today.

You can read the history of how Rolling Thunder got started if you go here.

This was the starting point at the Pentagon.  Roughly 400,000 bikers were expected to turn up today.

A different kind of biker.

These were police motorbikes.

I took a short video near the Pentagon.  It's shaky at the end but it gives you a good view of the building and part of the crowd getting ready to start out on their ride.

We have attended this event a few days and ridden in the parade a couple times. It is something that you never forget.

I rode on the backseat of a motorcycle twice and won't do it again -- especially after a friend died after being hit by a car. He wore a helmet.

There's some super bikes there. I bet a ride on one of those would be really comfortable and exhilarating.

Wonderful images that remind me of when we were in DC to attend Number One Son's Graduation with his Jurist Doctorate from Georgetown about 15 years ago. The parade of cycles was wonderful. That evening, though, as motorcyclists returned to our hotel parking lot, they set off most of the car alarms. They came back in groups at all hours of the night and morning. We took it as funny, but it wouldn't have been funny for more than one night.

Wow, some pretty impressive bikes there. Especially like the trike with the eagle on the front faring. I really like it when you stumble across things like this, it gives you a real buzz.

Rolling Thunder is just awesome! Glad you got to see as much as you did. The pictures were great, and I enjoyed seeing the video too. We went to visit a General we knew at the Pentagon when our daughter was barley walking (about 16 months old) and we walked with her down those long corridors, between us, holding her hands. Kind've cool for a one-year-old to have done.

Good gosh! That's incredible. This looks like something my brother would give his eye teeth to attend.
