Hmmmm......let me get my Sherlock Holmes cap on.
I am channeling my favorite detective as I keep a keen eye on the suspect, and I wish I knew what he was thinking.
Yesterday there was a feeder full of bird seed and two suet cakes in the slots.
This morning the feeder was just about empty and the cakes had disappeared, except for the gloopy mess in the water dish, where some unknown perpetrator had deposited at least one of the suet cakes and turned it into a mud pie.
I don't think it was the squirrel even though he looks guilty. He swears he is innocent. I tend to believe him because when he and his family left to go back to their nests last night, the feeder was half full and the suet cakes were in place. I have a feeling his cousin Moriarty may have stopped by last night.
I have cleaned out and refilled the water dish and the feeders.....
but he can't fool me with his cute and innocent look. He knows something I am sure of it. He may not have dragged the suet cake into the water dish but there are other games he likes to play. Moriarty's cousin is a tricky fellow.
The game's afoot.....

Such a conundrum!! I know you'll solve it!
I think the culprit may be a masked bandit!

You did catch some cute photos of the destructive buggers. :)

my bet's on a raccoon for sure - especially w/ the suet in the water...
I love the words you put with the photos. Blackbirds can clean out my suet in minutes when there is a crowd of them.

That's pretty tricky, Denise!
We don't have squirrels but we have stray cats wandering and straying on our roof and possibly eating the food we leave for our adopted stray cat Petrocelli!
I am trying to get some tips from you ;-)
They are the most adorable series of photos. I hear they are pests in some places, but gosh couldn't have cuter ones!
NO one portrays the inner life of small creatures like you do. REALLY!

Ooh so cute Denise !
I admit to liking squirrels, but they can be so destructive.
You've captured their personality perfectly ;)

Hi Denise...Such a cute story lol..squirrels make great subjects with there antics!!
I thing you just might have a Masked Bandit aka Raccoon...thats what happens here : }
Grace
The squirrel reminds me of the years we lived in New York...there were so many squirrels in Central Park and we would feed them.
A fabulous post. had me giggling. He looks guilty so fat and pooped.
I love mysteries...grins. I was going to say the guilty party was a fox but I forgot you had raccoons over there.
Me again, I was going to add that I bought a special holder for suet cakes, one that squirrels can't get into. No? Wrong! Manufacturers obviously don't know squirrels... mine simply ripped the metal cage apart and ran off with it... leaving just the lid. The cage was never found.
Thank you. We don't have squirrells so I can see his cute side.
Lovely pictures Denise and I love the commentary too. I think your little friend looks completely innocent. A x
It will be a Raccoon. I read somewhere that they like to wash their food.
These little rascals are a never ending source of entertainment!
wow..what a cute guy!
With the food in water you may have a raccoon.Cute shots on the squirrel.
These are just wonderful pictures. They absolutely crack me up. I don't know why squirrels are so funny, but they are!
Cute series of photos and post, Denise. I have not seen any squirrels go after my suet. Maybe you have a raccoon. Have a great evening and a wonderful weekend!
wow denise! you know, how sweet and funny squirrels can be. moreover, they are even quite affectionate animals!
beautiful shots, thanks so much for sharing;)
I love these guys!
Perhaps one of those masked bandits. One of them made off with my entire feeder a few weeks ago. Good thing that the natural food is now plentiful for the birds.
A cute bandit :)
He is cute Denise, I'm delighted by your pictures!

How could you suspect such a beautiful little fellow of naughtiness?
Awww...how sweet! I love squirrels and your photos have made my day. Thanks for sharing, Denise.
They are so comic and cute! Loved this!
All of my squirrel friends would be quick to point a finger (claw?) at those pesky raccoons. A squirrel would never do such things (wink, wink).
I came over to visit the little birds in your post above and got totally sidetracked by this cute little fellow.
Thank you for all your lovely comments. It takes me a while to catch up but I think I have returned all your visits now.
