On Friday night Gregg and I were very happy to attend the opening of a local production of Sunday in the Park with George, which was originally inspired by George Seurat's marvelous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. You can read about it if you click on this link. Our daughter-in-law Lisa had a part and it was wonderful seeing her and the other cast members sing and perform so beautifully. We were very impressed with the whole production, from the actors to the people in the back in charge of all the lighting and special effects, to the 10-member orchestra behind the scenes. We were especially proud of our daughter-in-law.
Our evening started when we drove over to pick up our son and a good friend of theirs. Lisa had already left for the theater to get ready for her role. We were early and were able to get a seat in the first row, and were surprised and delighted when Lisa's brother and sister-in-law arrived shortly afterwards. They were in town for the weekend and we had a great time catching up before the performance, in the intermission and later as we waited for Lisa to join us after the show.
The photo above and below shows Lisa.
It was a great evening and I couldn't have enjoyed it more if I had been watching the original on Broadway. Anyone of these good people would fit right in one of those performances.
Well done everyone and especially to our daughter-in-law Lisa. You certainly deserved the standing ovation at the end of the performance.

On Saturday I was at the local movie theatre with friends watching the New York Met's live televised performance of The Gotterdammerung, the final opera in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. With two intermissions of about 20-25 minutes each, I was in the movie theater for five-and-a-half hours, but the stiffness I felt sitting for all that time was well worth it as it was extremely enjoyable.
We had a good dose of culture this weekend and I hope to take my friends to see our daughter-in-law perform before the show ends.

How lovely. I am really pleased that you had a good time and your obvious affection for and pride in Lisa is heart warming.
How lovely for you Denise. It is wonderful to see a family member excel on the stage.
Thank goodness you only sat through 5 hrs. of Wagner, sitting through the whole Ring Cycle is quite a cultural experience but rather wearing on the derriere.
Sprry I'm not blogging for a while, I'm off to Melbourne again to sit at my sister's bedside in palliative care.
A good activity for winter months too. You are obviously very proud of Lisa and I can see why. A very talented young lady.
Dear Denise,

Talented people there!Congratulations for all!

How wonderful to have a talented daughter-in-law. I could feel your pride as I read your description of the whole event.
What fun to go watch and have a relative in it. That's makes it so much better.

I like live performances and its a bonus if I know somebody in the cast.
I love opera and when I lived in Houston I was a season ticket holder but I got to where I stayed for only two acts of a 3 act work.
Hi Denise...I would have loved seeing that ...and you lovely daughter-in-law looks wonderful in it ...!!
Sound like a wonderful weekend you had!!

I would have had a hard time singing AND acting at the same time. Lol. Kudos to Lisa for the fine performance! As for Wagner, I could never sit for 5 hours. Yesterday, we saw Donizetti's "Don Pasquale." It was shorter than Wagner: 4 pm - 6:30 pm with one 20 minute intermission. That's more my cup of tea, thanks. But, I am glad you had a great time at the opera, Denise.
What a unique theme to portray. I had that print for years.
Oh that looks and sounds wonderful ! A day at the theater how lovely ! Have a great day !
How wonderful! It sounds like a terrific evening. I can imagine how proud you must have all been.
How delightful! And to have a relative in the production as well had to make it even more special. Are you familiar with the topiary version of the Grande Platte painting that is a park in Columbus, Ohio? It even has topiary figures in a topiary boat on the lake! The creator of the trained plant figures is the husband of a very distant cousin of my husbands!
Denise, it does look and sound like fun!
