Meeting Elle Marie for the first time.

Last weekend we drove 200 miles south to spend our 4th of July Weekend with Gregg's family. It was a very special journey for us as this time we would get to meet the newest member of our family, sweet baby Elle Marie. She is the daughter of our niece and nephew Danielle and Chris.

We were having the annual family picnic on the Saturday, so Danielle and Chris invited us over on the Friday morning. This way they felt Gregg and I could really enjoy this special occasion before the hub-bub the following day. It was a wonderful morning saying hello to our great-niece for the first time. We thought the note on the door was very cute and can't all new mothers relate?

I always remember the joy we felt when our own little boy arrived 31 years' ago, not only the joy but the awe and wonderment of a miniature person that we knew was all ours. All those memories came flooding back.

Right Gregg?

I think he's remembering too.

What a super morning it was. It was fun seeing these two young, wonderful people whom we are so very fond of, taking to parenthood like they were pro's. The first time I met Chris was when he was six months' old, an adorable baby himself. I didn't meet Danielle until many years later. He and Danielle met when they were 14-15 years old, maybe even before that, and we feel like we have known Danielle forever. When they eventually married we were thrilled.

In the picture below Elle Marie is watching her Mom.

And this cute adorable expression, well I couldn't leave this one out.

I got to hold Elle Marie for 99 percent of our visit. I was worried she might start to cry when I held her, but she had a smile on her face just about the whole time....

a sweet little smile, such a beautiful baby......

and soon she fell asleep with me still holding her.

What a wonderful morning!

What a wonderful visit you had. She is absolutely adorable! I do miss holding a baby in my arms. I can't carry my granddaughter because she's 4 years old and too much of a handful for me to lift. Elle Marie looks like a very alert and brilliant baby already.

How can anyone not love babies. So sweet. I liked grandbabies better than I did my own babies. I had no idea then what to do with them. And mother instinct never hit with me till grand babies came along.

That's what makes the grand babies so special, whether they are grandchildren, or grand nieces or nephews, you can give them back to Mom or Dad when they become fussy. Beautiful little girl.
