Osprey

I haven't been around for a while because as I mentioned in my other post I have been down with the worst cough and cold I have had in years. It has lasted for just about two weeks and I think I have another week to go before I get rid of it entirely, but I think I am finally on the other side. Now I feel like I have sleeping sickness to go along with it, probably trying to catch up on a lot of sleepless nights due to the coughing. Gregg who has also had the same cold thankfully got over his a lot faster.

On our way back from spending time with the family a while back, we stopped off in Tappahannock where we knew there would be nesting platforms down in the water.

I could hear the Osprey calling out for its mate very clearly, the first time I have ever heard that beautiful sound. It wasn't long before he returned. I couldn't capture the call myself but I found this short video where you can. I am not sure of the location.

  3. That's a long time to be sick. Maybe you need an antibiotic? Hope you don't develop pneumonia. Prayers!

  5. I have a pair of resident osprey at my summer home and they are so much fun to observe throughout the season. However, I have never brrn able to capture such good pictures as yours. 6. Beautiful shots!

I would gander a guess that your body is just worn out from that cold or whatever you had. Go ahead and sleep, eat well, drink all the fluids, and recover!

  7. I hope that you feel better soon. Some of those colds are hard to shake off.

Great pics of the osprey. I don't think that I have ever seen a live osprey.

  8. What a creature to see! We've got em over here but they're quite rare and I've never seen one. I think there are known nesting platforms of trees here in Scotland too which makes seeing them easier - though I know they try to keep some locations top secret.

  9. Enjoyed the Osprey pictures. I've only seen one once, it dropped a fish right in front of me. And me without a camera! Hope you feel better real soon.

  12. The osprey is my favourite eagle. I saw one dive into a pond and catch a fish, it was magic.

  13. Denise, sleeping is the body's way of repairing itself. SO SLEEP!!!
We have lots of osprey where we live, they make HUGE nests on top of the hydro pylons!

  18. Well, the bird photos are great, but I hope you've been to the doctor. A bad cough is nothing to treat yourself, as brochitis and pneumonia are serious illnesses, as I know from experience. The sleepiness can be from low oxygen levels if your lungs are really congested, not to practice medicine without a license, of course! But do see someone unless you are getting really well. We want you all well soon!

  19. Oh, I am so sorry you have been so sick! Gus and I had that nasty cough for 4 months when we first moved here. All I could do was sleep and cough! I do hope you are both over it soon! I have missed your visits! Great shots of the osprey by the way. Just look at those wings!

  20. I always appreciate it when you put a video on your blog. The sounds were very pretty and I was surprised not to see her mate. Did you get to see the mate in your picture?
