My TODAY'S FLOWERS post is dedicated to my Mother

You will probably recognize the photo below from my sidebar. It was taken on my Mum's 21st Birthday in 1937.

I know it is Father's Day and I wish all you Dad's out there a very happy one, but today would have been my Mother's 90th Birthday, so I am saying Happy Birthday Mum and dedicating my Today's Flowers post to her because she always loved the roses in Dad's garden, and often chose the ones he planted. Every time I think of my Mum I think of both her and my Dad sitting amongst all their roses and enjoying a cup of tea. They had a small bench they liked to sit on, underneath the kitchen window.

She passed 17 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her. In this photo with our son Brad she looks a bit stern, but truth be told we were all travel weary, having driven most of the way across America.

We were just starting off on another day's journey and had spent the night in some town now long forgotten, but not this moment in time thankfully. Photographs become priceless treasures the more time passes. It is one of my favorite photos of the two of them. Son was still waking up when he placed his head on Nanny's shoulders. They had become fast friends on that trip, a lovely traveling experience for all of us.

The reason we were making our way across country was because husband Gregg was changing duty stations from Virginia Beach (Virginia) to Monterey (California). Gregg's sister had also just married and we stayed long enough so that we could all attend. A couple of days later we were on our way west. It was a great adventure that whole holiday, and one of those wonderful memories Gregg and I talk about today.

You too, my Mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor.

  11. Dear Denise,

What a wonderful tribute to your mother. I love the photo of her as a young woman and also of her with your son. The roses are all so beautiful. My mother's birthday and father's day are always close together and my father's birthday and mother's day are close together. I like the way I think of them together on their special days.

    Best regards, Carver

  30. First, what a beautiful tribute to your Mom. She was a gorgeous lady and I know how you feel. My Mom passed in 1994 and I still think of her each day and many times a day. They are our Moms so they are always with us. Next, I love the flower bouquet, so sweet, touching and lovely. Thanks for sharing your Mom with us today.

  31. Beautiful flowers, Denise, and a lovely tribute to your mother. What would we miss without our treasured photos? A photo, a scent, a passing gesture or expression and we're transported to another time. That's love and memory.
