Nature Notes

I wonder what he's crowing about? He was very loud and persistent. We parked our car at one of the many overlooks and I didn't recognize that strange noise as a crow. In fact I thought it sounded more like a frog's 'ribbet' and was hopeful that I might finally be able to take a photo of a tree frog. I was really surprised when I finally came across Mr. Crow up in a pine tree, and discovered that he was the one making all that racket. I have heard crows before but am only just learning that birds make a variety of sounds, which apparently includes Mr. Crow.

Michelle is the host of Nature Notes. Thank you Michelle for this great meme.

  1. What a great shot with Mr Crow's mouth wide open. They are very noisy and I think I've heard them sounding like a frog before too. I don't have a clue though what the various sounds mean.

    Lovely shot of Mr. Crow.
Maybe he was crowing for his sweetheart to come? :)

  3. We have a family of crows that frequent our yard, and have taken ownership of one of the birdbaths. They can be both quite entertaining and annoying.

  5. Maybe he's saying, "Hey, I have a sore throat!"

    I crack myself up.

I tried to leave you a comment as soon as I logged on but the flaming internet dropped out. it is such a pest when we get only intermittent signals.

Enjpy your life, you seem to have a busy one and congratulations on your new citizenship.

  7. I've seen many different kinds of birds here in Belgium and some of them are obviously Mr Crow's cousins!

  12. I think crows are very interesting creatures, too. I find that crows are all a little bit different in every country which fascinates me. It always reminds me of Darwin's finches.

  13. I don't think it is a crow. Sounds like a raven. Ravens are bigger and actually do croak like frogs.

I always wonder if I would rather be the very smart and social crow or the also intelligent jay..I think they are such amazing birds with all their vocalizations....Michelle
