Individuality

I spotted these two young men when Gregg and I were vacationing on the west coast at the end of last year. We were in Mendocino, California and they were walking up the street deep in conversation. They had a nice aura and I liked the look of them, hence the photo and the quotes.

Me, I'm just this person
Myself born an individual

Wake up and see the world with your own eyes,
show the world that you aren't a sheep in the fold.

  1. My children were just like that. My youngest daughter had a mohawk haircut when she was 15. I didn't say anything about it. After two months it was over. She tried all kind of clothes. Now she is an Aussi and very normal. The other daughter dyed her hair when she was 17 in all kind of colours, now her hair has its natural colour with some gray in it. I, myself, like to be me, but I noticed that I am not much different from my neighbours. Nice photos!

  2. LOVE it! I tried so hard to be a "sheep in the fold" for so long. I'm so glad THOSE days are finally gone and I can celebrate being an individual!! Thanks so much for the reminder!!

  3. My son is a bit like that I suppose - had his hair cut into mohawk style, to raise money for charity when he was about 15. My step-daughter is definitely one of a kind, too much to go into here! Now my son is in Australia and step-daughter is in New Zealand. Both now married with families. Our other two children are still here in the UK. I love the way the young are unhibited these days. Great quotes. A x

  4. Hi Denise, I guess each of us is looking for ourselves in one way or the other. Kids today seem to struggle with who they are more than we did as kids. Luckily, my sons never dressed 'weird'--or did anything which would have made my mother roll her eyes... ha ha....

We are all unique ----and some of us show it by the way we look and dress --and others of us show it by the way we write or talk or take pictures or just by the way we live. Isn't it wonderful that we are ALL unique and special people in God's eyes???

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. They are having an adventure. These are neat. I admire your taking these pictures. I usually chicken out. I feel safer with rocks and trees. These are winners.

  10. When My kids were in high school I learned not to judge people by how they look. Son Jake was into grunge, and daughter Jill was like to attract the boys attention. Funny thing about that was when she got their attention, she wasn't sure she wanted it. Jake was judged by how he looked, misjudged by those who didn't bother to get to know his real qualities.
So now I enjoy seeing people's attempts at individuality.

  11. These are beautiful quotes, beautifully illustrated. I have to say I LOVE the feathered hat :) And I also have to confess I can sometimes use clothes to express myself even now :D So your image of two young men with their jaunty look makes me very happy - thank you for noticing them.

  18. I remember a time when either one of these boys could be me.

  19. I like the look of them too. The one with the musical instrument sort of reminds me of my youth (not me as I'm female but male friends). I was born in 1957 so I mean way back when, ha.

  20. I wonder if I'm looking at that right. It looks like to small to be a guitar, but too big to be a violin.

It made me laugh though, because one guy is weighed down like a pack mule, and the other guy isn't carrying anything at all.
