Watery Wednesday - 1000th post

This is my 1,000th post. Tomorrow I am celebrating.

These icicles were hanging just outside a bedroom window this weekend. The sun was hitting them and making them sparkle. Beautiful! They are all around the house and fortunately were not over any walking path. Several times I have heard them explode as they hit the ground. The first time it happened it was startling, especially as it was around two o'clock in the morning. I became used to them but I was glad to see that they melted the following day as I feared for the critters we have hanging around the house searching for food.

Icicles

by Lenna Gonya

Glistening, gleaming sharp and clear
They form on objects overnight
Growing as the day goes by
And sparkling in the light.

Dazzling diamonds on the eaves
Pointing toward the snowy ground
Sharp and cold, they linger on
Where icy winds abound

Water drips from icy spikes
Threatening, nature’s spear
And silently they melt away
And finally disappear

Don't you wish the icicles were really diamonds?????? ha

  3. THose are some serious, serious icicles! They're so pretty though, and great photos of them. I would definitely not want to be underneath them, that's for sure. Very cool perspective on that third picture!

  4. Great shots and the icicles are lovely. I always worry when they are over a door, will they break off just as I walk under them?

  15. Hi Denise,
Congratulations on your 1,000th post! Those are pretty pictures of icicles; I liked the poem too. I keep watching the icicles that hang down our bathroom window. If they ever completely cover the window, like bars, I'll take a picture.
