The Cow

I have a story about this cow which I will tell you of later. We met her on our journey along the west coast. She was a beautiful cow. She reminded me of this poem I read recently.
The friendly cow all red and white,
I love with all my heart.
She gives me cream with all her might
To eat with apple tart.

She wonders lowing here and there,
And yet she cannot stray.
All in the pleasant open air
The pleasant light of day.

And blown by all the winds that pass,
And wet with all the showers,
She walks among the meadow grass
And eats the meadow flowers.

~Robert Louis Stevenson~

  1. that is such a lovely poem, I even like the picture of the cow, you don't see them in the pastures like you do in Britain, at least not in Canada.

  3. I remember that pastoral poem from my early days.If ever a cow could be called pretty she would be the one in your photograph.

  4. hmmm. The cows I saw in Hawaii attracted flies by the dozens. Not as idyllic as the poem portrays.

  12. This is amazing. That poem was one of the many I used to read to my boys when they were little. It was actually from their dad's story book- he had as a child which I retrievd from the house he grew up in (shortly before he passed away). I love the memories and the beautiful picture Denise.
