Watery Wednesday # 55

From my archives. I scanned another older photo for this week's share, a man and his dog walking on the beach on a cold day. We were at Chick Beach in Virginia Beach back in 2001. My ex-Navy hubby says that the ship returning to port looked like a Naval amphibious ship that carries Marines. Today is the first time I have put socks on. It was downright nippy in our house. When I came across this photo it spoke to me. Not winter yet, it's going to warm up a little tomorrow thankfully.

"I Started Early"

~Emily Dickinson~

I started Early -- Took my Dog
And visited the Sea
The Mermaids in the Basement
Came out to look at me

And Frigates -- in the Upper Floor
Extended Hempen Hands
Presuming Me to be a Mouse
Aground -- upon the Sands

But no Man moved Me -- till the Tide
Went past my simple Shoe
And past my Apron -- and my Belt
And past my Bodice -- too

And made as He would eat me up
As wholly as a Dew
Upon a Dandelion's Sleeve
And then -- I started -- too

And He -- He followed -- close behind
I felt his Silver Heel
Upon my Ankle -- Then my Shoes
Would overflow with Pearl

Until We met the Solid Town
No One He seemed to know
And bowing -- with a Mighty look
At me -- The Sea withdrew.

  10. Oh that does look chilly. Love the poem. I can't believe how quickly our weather changed. We had 110 degrees 3 days in a row and then yesterday was just 74-- which I think is perfect.

  12. The boat in the distance looks close enough to almost touch. It is chilly here too. The temperature is not expected to get above the mid 50s until Saturday, when a balmy 63 degrees is forecasted.

  16. Funny - I always judge the weather by the sock-wearing too. I'm still in loafers-no-socks but actually purchased a new pair of ankle boots today, which is truly a sign!

  20. I like the Autumn leaves as your header.

This seems to be such a busy time of year, getting things cut back and taken out to the city collection spot for grass, items from the yard and etc. Because we know winter is just around the corner.

Oh my, where did this summer go, in fact where did 2009 go?

  28. We can feel the change in seasons..but it takes a bit longer. We don't have snow on the Mountain yet either. At night, we still sleep with the fan on above but I have a small pillow over my ear! Gives you an idea of the tropics! The poem was excellent with the picture by the way- Have a great weekend-
