Another post from the Virginia Scottish Games and Festival we attended last weekend.
The Kennel Club recognizes twelve breeds of dog as being Scottish.
Dandie Dinmont Terrier
Rough Collie and Smooth Collie
West Highland White Terrier
According to Scottish tradition, the sound of a dog barking or howling was a bad omen.
I am very happy to say that no dogs were barking or howling at The Parade of Dogs. In fact, nothing could be heard over the sound of those bagpipes.
We saw many little dogs that day and they all got along very well, except for one minor argy-bargy between a Dacshund and a Westie when we were sitting on the grass under the shade of a tree eating our fish and chips. I was so startled I almost dropped a chip! The Dacshund barked at the Westie when he walked by and I think was scared by the sudden appearance of the Westie who had been obscured by his human companion. They had a little back and forth and gave each other a royal telling off. Otherwise all the blessed little darlings that we saw were very well behaved.
There were many in traditional clothing.
I couldn't choose just one photo. This model of the tartan gave me several. I think she was telling me that this was her best side.
Or maybe it was this side, I can't remember and I think she got a little confused too.
Another very traditional outfit.
And here's a video at the start of the parade.
Camera Critters is another wonderful meme created by Misty Dawn and hosted by Misty and Tammy. You can find other critter photos by clicking here.
