Camera Critters # 70

Yesterday I was out and about with a friend and came across a few critters; three butterflies and one Japanese Beetle.
The Cabbage White landed on the Coneflower momentarily, as did the little Skipper on this pretty Balloon Flower. I was hoping he would position himself a little better but no, this was all I could get and when I tried to alter my angle for a better shot he flew off. I suppose seeing a strange woman trying to contort herself into an odd shape was too much.

I am not sure what this butterfly is. He looked a little worse for wear as you can see part of his wing is missing. He was on a paving-stone path and we studied it for about a minute, took a photo and he flew off. Flutterbies, like me, need to stay off the caffeine.

The Japanese Beetles are about and I could not get a very clear image of this one but wanted to show how busy he had been eating his lunch.

This is another Japanese Beetle I took a few years back. It also came out blurry but I decided to work with it in Paint Shop Pro and turned it into a 'painting'.

Camera Critters is another wonderful meme created by Misty Dawn and hosted by Misty and Tammy. You can find other critter photos by clicking here.

I'm amazed the butterfly with the damaged wing could fly. Did he go round in circles? ;-}

Great insect photography. I especially like the first one, the white butterfly on red and pink. Beautiful contrast.

They are all fantastic photos.
The butterfly with the damaged wing is called a Red Spotted Purple Butterfly... they were my Camera-Critters last week ;-)

You said FLUTTERBIES! That's what I call them, too - My mom got me doing that a long time ago!

What kind of flower is the beetle eating on? It's so white & pretty

Very nice shots, every one of them!

Your gentle soul is kin to these creatures so they naturally consider you their official photographer. Japanses Beetles = my childhood! I had forgotten them for decades!! Thanks for taking me back...

Hi, Denise. I agree with Misty that your injured butterfly is a red-spotted purple. I'll have to post the other pics I took of the spicebush swallowtail. You can't tell from today's photo, but it was missing nearly all of its right hindwing and was still flying. It makes one curious what danger they escaped! Great photos!

LOL. The things we do to have great shots. I won't mind countoring too if the results of my shots will be as beautiful as your shots. Great job.

The butterflies are beautiful. Well, I guess the Japanese beetle is too...except I hate to admit it because they are so destructive. ;-)

The lighting on the white butterfly is awesome, I agree with Misty Dawn I think the butterfly with the damaged wing is a Red Spotted Purple a species of Admiral. Great photos!
