Camera Critters # 70

Yesterday I was out and about with a friend and came across a few critters; three butterflies and one Japanese Beetle.
The Cabbage White landed on the Coneflower momentarily, as did the little Skipper on this pretty Balloon Flower. I was hoping he would position himself a little better but no, this was all I could get and when I tried to alter my angle for a better shot he flew off. I suppose seeing a strange woman trying to contort herself into an odd shape was too much.

I am not sure what this butterfly is. He looked a little worse for wear as you can see part of his wing is missing. He was on a paving-stone path and we studied it for about a minute, took a photo and he flew off. Flutterbies, like me, need to stay off the caffeine.

The Japanese Beetles are about and I could not get a very clear image of this one but wanted to show how busy he had been eating his lunch.

This is another Japanese Beetle I took a few years back. It also came out blurry but I decided to work with it in Paint Shop Pro and turned it into a 'painting'.

Camera Critters is another wonderful meme created by Misty Dawn and hosted by Misty and Tammy. You can find other critter photos by clicking here.

  12. Hi, Denise. I agree with Misty that your injured butterfly is a red-spotted purple. I'll have to post the other pics I took of the spicebush swallowtail. You can't tell from today's photo, but it was missing nearly all of its right hindwing and was still flying. It makes one curious what danger they escaped! Great photos!
