Final Resting Place of George Washington

This is the crypt where George Washington's remains lie, also that of his wife and several members of his family. There is a sign nearby that asks you to be quiet, but a feeling comes over you, in my own experience anyhow, whenever I am near such a sacred place. I get the same feeling when I walk down the path next to the Vietnam Wall.

  1. People like George Washington become such a big name and piece of history to us, that we forget that they were mere mortals like us and that they have a "resting place". George earned his rest and the quiet moments of awe that surround him now. This is an interesting trip!

  2. Thanks Mary, going to Mount Vernon made me want to learn a lot more about him.
