Barred Owl

I took these pictures when I joined a photographic workshop some time ago. We were in the Shenandoah Mountains. This gorgeous owl was rescued after being injured and was unable to return to the wild, so was being used as part of an educational program. I thought he was magnificent.

A wise old owl sat on an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard;
Why aren't we like that wise old bird?

He is a beauty! That poem fits perfectly. Owls are all the rage today I see! They are showing up on my blog too!

Hi Denise - just found you. The owl is beautiful, I have always loved them. There is an animal sanctuary near here called 'Secret World' and they used to have a rescued owl called Sage. Not sure if he is still with them. The photo of the duck on your previous blog is gorgeous as well. Will look in again. A

Hello Kathie and Anne, so nice of you both to stop by and thanks for the nice comments. I think owls are one of the most beautiful birds and look forward to seeing them on your blog Kathie. Anne I hope Sage is still living the good life at the animal sanctuary, or better still back in the wild.

Wonderful pictures! I hate to see magnificent birds like this hurt and unable to fly, but am glad there are those that care for them. I would love to see owls in the wild, but never seem to find them. Such beautiful birds. Love the poem.

Me too, but there are good people out there who will take care of them and they are so dedicated. I have never seen them in the wild either Mary. I would be in total awe if I did and probably forget to take a photo!

Love your photos of this owl. I was at a country fair yesterday and they had to most magnificent owls there. I had never seen them up close before. I used to live in London and was once married to a Brit. Wasn't as lucky as you and your Greg, still together after many years. Love the nature in your posts!
